When we are born we are born into a family. There is no doubt about that, the same goes for animals and even plants. Sometimes family is a safe haven, a safe nest and parents are like birds, taking care of their little ones, providing food and shelter. But primary families are very different in their structure. Some have the privilege of having both parents, some don’t, some have the safe haven, some don’t. Each and every story of ours is different, and the circumstances in which a family lives. Family and family life is one of the aspects connected to the root chakra, therefore more about it in this post.
I had a nice primary family, good conditions to live and thrive, but still, we lost the connection among ourselves a bit. I think it was because of the fact, that we had to deal with a lot of illnesses. Each one of us four had some major illnesses or injuries during my childhood. There were cancer, stroke, kidney operations, other operations, major injuries … So visits to a hospital were kind of normal.
And when I look back, I feel that some of the needs were not met. I was not neglected by any means, but in some regard, my parents were unable to take care of my emotional needs.
Did you ever have a feeling, that your parents were good parents, but still you were missing something, and this was more or less more connection? That feeling of belonging. Yes, our parents were great parents, they provided us with a place to stay, shelter, furniture, clothes, food was on the table, we were able to go to school, to musical school, to evolve, to play, to have many things. But emotionally sometimes they were kind of unable to come closer to us, or they just didn’t know how to make a better bond with their children. They were just occupied with other things, in my case with their health.

These notions, among others, are also a part of primary or root chakra, that sits at the bottom of our spine and governs also this feeling of belonging to a family, this need of full acceptance by your primary caregivers.
What is the root chakra?
The root chakra is the seat of raw energy, known as Kundalini, the Muladhara chakra is the first of seven chakras. It governs the functioning of the lower part of the body, including the bladder, kidneys, lower spine, and back. Psychologically, it governs confidence and survival instincts, like “fight or flight ” attitude.
When the root chakra is functioning optimally, you feel grounded, secure, and at ease with the world. But when it is imbalanced or blocked several signs can manifest, from back pain to fatigue. Some signs may include feelings of insecurity, anger, restlessness, aggressiveness, even eating disorders. Common areas well scarcity feelings.
Root chakra is the chakra of stability, security, and our basic needs. It is blocked by fear and various forms of trauma. Psychological symptoms of blockage include anxiety disorders, fear, panic attacks, worry, overthinking, depression, nightmares, emotionally disconnected, disconnected from the body, anger/rage.
Why balanced root chakra is important
Without belonging to some sort of family or tribe, you will be unable to feel complete at the root level.
The root chakra is the foundation chakra, healthy root chakra, therefore, lays the foundation for the whole system. Open chakras mean that you are in balance and optimized for success. Closed or imbalanced chakras cause problems and can be linked to unhappiness and stagnation.
It is important to heal and clear bottom chakras so that the upper will work better. Within the safe circle of family, we should find a sense of belonging and the freedom to be who we are, to be unique.
Ways to balance the root chakra
There are many ways to balance your root chakra. Among them are using the gemstones, meditation, yoga, affirmations, journaling, and eating red food, since reed is the root chakra color. Here we are going to look at some of them.
Affirmations
Affirmations are incredibly useful for root chakra healing. You can repeat these positive statements multiple times a day, or anytime you get a sense your chakra might be blocked. You might want to try saying one or more of these root chakra affirmations right before or after you meditate, or when you get ready for the day ahead:
- “Wherever I am, I am safe and secure.”
- “I am stable, grounded, and relaxed at this moment.”
- “All of my safety needs will always be met.”
- “I have a healthy body, a healthy mind, and an abundant life.”
- “I am anchored to the earth and supported by the universe.”
- “The universe will always support me and show me where to go next.”
- “I deserve and receive support whenever I need it.”
- “The universe will always provide for me.”
- “I feel my root chakra opening, and I feel myself stabilizing.”
- “I am secure and happy in my home.”
You can also combine affirmations with yoga poses, or try holding one of your root chakra stones while saying an affirmation. Some people also like to write their affirmations down, placing them in a prominent place to see them often during the day.
Journaling
Journaling is often helpful to explore ideas and it is very beneficial with using it as a healing tool. Writing in a journal can bring mental clarity, the fog of our brain is lifted and sometimes we can see things better as we write it down. It certainly brings a better understanding of self – and this is what we want to achieve first so that we can heal what is blocking us. You can use journal prompts below to get some clarity in this regard.
Self – guided meditation
Sit down in stillness, find a comfortable position. Calm yourself down and use some long and deep breaths to come to the present moment. As you feel fully relaxed and present, think about the place your root chakra lies. Imagine it as a red swirl, a ball of energy maybe, or just look what kind of image comes for you into your mind.
Firstly just observe, just look at what do you see, feel, and sense. Relax and just observe what comes to you. Then you can imagine a white light coming from the universe, from the sky and entering your third chakra, and beginning to heal it. The color is not so muted anymore but becomes clearer and clearer. Then think about the source of energy coming from the mother earth. This energy, green energy, comes into your chakra from the bottom and begins to clear it. Your red chakra is becoming clearer and clearer, it is shining as a clear gemstone of a ruby. It is big enough, not too big, not too small. Now check again how do you feel, what do you sense.
You can journal about it, to get even more clearance.
